Question:
Would You Name Your Child Judas?

Even if you aren't a religous person and don't believe in the Bible, if you still liked the name Judas, would you consider giving it to your child? lol I've always wondered about those types of names...like Judas, or Jezebel, or any name that has negative connotations in the past, but would probably be considered unique and rare in today's society.

Personally I would take into account the religious climate of the country in which you live as well as that of the state and community in which you live. I've encountered people who have told me that the fact that I'm a woman and I work outside the home is anti-god and I even had one of them threaten to slash my tires to prevent me going to work.

GIven that people get so agitated about something that, to me, seems fairly insignificant, I think you could be subjecting a child to a great deal of unnecessary animosity from people who feel that the use of the name is somehow "anti-god".

Don't worry about what people think about the name you pick out for your child. No matter what you name the child, someone will always have something to say about it and children will make fun of it anyway. I personally like Judas, but might suggest that you keep the middle name as a back up incase your child doesn't like Judas as he gets older.

No, becuase of the negative connotation with that name in society. Even though Judas was just doing what Jesus 'asked of him', if you'll examine the scripture closely, you'll see that Jesus gave Judas a chance to decide, but he didn't stand up for his Lord, he went ahead with his self-centered quest.....Sorry that's kinda off subject.

But no, there are plenty of other, meaningful Biblical names if that's what you're wanting to go for!

Good question......

I would rather called him "Praise" the English meaning instead of Judas. By calling him Judas might mean stigmatization for him from the society. I don't think any person would want to be called and addressed as Judas.

Judas was misunderstood & a new scripture recently discovered has proved he was Only doing what Jesus asked of him.

I think he really suffered in his quest 2 protect Jesus, but knew he was destined 2 fail.

B proud that U want 2 name a child after such a man.

Yes if I would really like the name, why not? But you know that if you name the kid Judas he won't be very happy when he'll learn the Bible and founds out what did Judas do and his colleges would laugh, if they are really stupid. I wouldn't name my kid like that, but it's your decision what to do. Good luck!

I agree it is a nice name but NO I would not name my kid Judas because of the negative feelings MANY people would have. Nor would I use Jezabel or Benedict (Arnold) or Hitler or Stalin, etc.

No, I wouldnt name my child Judas. I just think because of my beliefs, I would never want to name my child after the person that sold Jesus out.

If I liked the name, yes. I am "religious" though and most biblical names appeal to me.

If you want to spare your child needless teasing when they are in elementary school, you probably shouldnt name them that.

Your kid will probably thank you.
