For those that are not from an asian culture "auto-circumcision" is achieving the circumcised appearance without operations.

The medical recommendation for hygiene is to encourage your child to retract his foreskin while washing, once he is old enough.
Some boys are not able to until the age of 11, so do not try to force it. Although if encouraged young, most can retract by the age of 5.

Your child should be the ONLY one to retract his skin so he does not cause injury or pain.

The only difference with 'auto-circumcision', is that once his foreskin can slide back and forth
comfortably, he is asked to leave it permanently in the retracted position.

In only a few months it stays in that position. When the penis grows, any loose skin will
smooth out, becoming identical to a circumcised penis.

How many parents still practice this tradition?

I am autocircumcised as was my father, and I assume his before him. I do not have children but would probably teach him do the same thing if I have a boy too. I would never have him circumcised at birth! It's so unnecessary. I don't remember but I must have only been about 3 when I pulled my skin back. No problems. More countries should do this instead of resorting to surgery. it really is identical in appearance minus any scaring

I did not know it was called this but it is done in my family. Extended family too.
