Your child will not be a label. Your child will be a human being with feelings and a need for love just like everybody else. That's the problem with the world. We're all hung up on labels. We miss the soul of something because we are too worried about "defining" it. A famous philosopher once said, "when you label me, you negate me"

If your child is born out of wedlock, then technically yes. If the father walks away and isn't involved in the child's life, then yes. However, standards have changed this day in age. Things are different than they used to be and things like this are far more accepted in society than they used to be. When it comes to trying to terminate the rights of the biological father and/or having a man adopt your child from a previous relationship, the state usually won't legally bastardize a child unless the mother is married to or committed to the man that is adopting the child. The rules around all this are rather sketchy. Just have to keep in mind the best interests of the child. No matter what that may mean for the relationship between the parents. By the way, just because you "have sex before marriage", doesn't mean it'll always result in a baby. Be safe, use protection. Protect yourself.

What is this the 16th century? Many couples have children outside of marriage.

You seem to be quite oddly ignorant about birth control methods. Please speak with your doctor about it.

a bastard is merely a nasty name for child whose parents are not married to each other. You could always use birth control you know. there are people who have had sex with more than one person before they finally marry someone else. it does not make their children bastards just because years before they were born their mother had sex

If you conceive of a child and it is born before our marriage, yes.

Sex alone, no.

In these days when having children outside of marriage has become the norm, we're a nation of bastards.

depends on if you get married before he is born. Technically one of my grandfathers was bastard because it was common law marriage. No marriage certificate or license in the 1970s in Colorado. that great grandmother was Cherokee, not on a reservation.

These days very likely the only people who really care religious fanatics and extremists and maybe priests and Catholic church.. and of course the child and their children. My mother REALLY did NOT want to talk about that much. her parents WERE married when she was conceived. She was born 10 months after they got married. She was a 10 month baby , not a 9 month baby and World War 1 bay boomer. World war 1 ended the day my grandparents were married.

By the traditional definition, yes, but the advent of paternity DNA tests have pretty much made the concept of bastardy obsolete. Before DNA tests, if a woman had a child out of wedlock then the father would only be legally recognized as the child's father if he made a public declaration of paternity. If he refused to acknowledge the child, the child was a bastard in the eyes of both society and and the law.

These days fathers do still have to make a public declaration of acknowledgement by signing a document called the affidavit of paternity, but if he does not do so voluntarily, he can be legally compelled to sign the document after a DNA test proves the child is his. Thus the concept of "bastard" is essentially obsolete in the legal sense, and is has mostly become obsolete in the social view, as well.

If you were unmarried and got pregnant and had a child, then in the old days your child would have been called a "bastard" or "illegitimate" - simply because the child was born out of wedlock.

If you're unmarried and get pregnant, but get married before the child is born, then neither of those two terms will apply to your child.

If you have sex before marriage but no child results; then you're simply someone who had sex without being married - just like 9 out of 10 of all other couples.

If you have sex before marriage, you simply have sex before marriage. Having sex doesn't automatically produce a child, especially if you're both using a birth control method.

If you have a child out of wedlock, technically it would be a bastard ("a person born of parents not married to each other." ~ Oxford Dictionaries online) BUT that term stopped being used many years ago. It's fairly common these days for unmarried couples to have children, although no woman should have a child she (or she and her partner) can't afford to raise properly, whether they're married or not.

No, mostly everybody nowadays has sex before marriage. Most people aren't like me who waited until they got married to have sex.
